I'm just trying to be genuine here man, but both of those subreddits, /r/Fallout and /r/Gaming, are pretty much what are known as biased circlejerks. Disclaimer here: not a parent, just trying to provide my option and some objective points on what I've seen after playing this game for over 170 hours. Let him play it when he's 16 or something. It's a gigantic game and there's a lot of opportunity for potentially inappropriate content for a 12 year old imo.

Rent it and play, or go on twitch/YouTube. As in your follower will be seen shooting up. Alcohol and drug use is often and prevalent as well. Sex is implied and heavily at times, but not really graphic. I don't think I've heard many (any? Maybe 1?) F bombs at all. The swearing is definitely much less than in previous fallout games. At 16/17? Probably, sure, but that's when you're able to see R rated movies, which is what I would classify the gore in this game as, if only taking gore into consideration.Д«ut every parent is different-it is up to you to make your own call on this one. Would my parents have let me play this at 12? Most definitely not. The VATS system specifically has always been very graphic since fallout 3 new Vegas, and now is no different.especially when you get to see an enemy's head explode in slow motion, leaving the top of their spinal cord as the only thing that continues to protrude out of their neck while blood gushes out, and bits of brain are scattered across the ground. To each their own though.ДЇirst, I really don't think the amount of gore in this game alone would allow it to be rated PG-13, at all.
